Hi. This is Jay from AOR Web Solutions, and we’re going to talk today about setting up your Google properties for a new website.
Unfortunately, one of the things that we have to deal with quite often is when Google properties are set up incorrectly and we have to try and fix it later on. So here’s five steps you can take to make sure that your Google properties are set up correctly right from the start.
First off, create a Google account. Quite often, people put their Google properties in their personal account – usually not a good idea. Usually you want to set up a separate account for your business. That way, if you move on or if you sell the business, it’s easier to transfer things.
Second, Google Analytics. Make sure that this is set up in your business account. Don’t trust a developer to do it because they often put it in their own account. Or, at the very least, make sure it is done in your account, not theirs.
Third, Google Tag Manager. This is a little bit more intricate, a little more involved, but it’s still not that hard to do. It’s an investment in the future. Trust me, you’ll appreciate it later.
Fourth, Google Search Console. This is how Google sees your website. Sign up for this today, even if you already have a website. There’s lots of great information in there.
Fifth, Google My Business. This is the best conduit for you to tell Google things about your business. Don’t miss out on this opportunity. Otherwise, Google fills in the blanks based on what they can find. Sign up for this today. Again, even if you already have a website and you haven’t done it, sign up and verify your business.
